We all now enjoy the luxury that comes with years of fighting to get a union . The struggle was real many people put in blood sweat and tears to get a union in our workplace. Prior to the Union we were all at will employees and could be terminated by any member of management for voicing our concerns or just not liking what we said or how we said it. The Union has allowed us to be able to voice our concerns to management with out fear of reprisal or termination.

                                                                     WHAT IS A UNION

A UNION is an organization set up to protect the rights of workers in the work place including fair treatment, non-bias, prejudice, safety, work conditions, ensuring non-hostile work environment and ensuring the company is following our contract.

Every dues paying member is protected by the contract that provides every member with the right to

1.Union Representation for all interactions with management.

 2. Grieve any instance of discipline, correctives including termination (except probationary Employees).

 3. Grieve contract violations These rights are not subject to the work ethics or lack thereof of any member or at the discretion of management.

 4.  Fair Hearing (System Board).

 5. Arbitration Consideration.

Unions make sure all agents get fair wages, guaranteed hours, benefits and a voice in specific station practices and policies. (Bid Committees).

Piedmont agents need a UNION because almost all the states that piedmont operate an airport  out of are in right to work states - Which means any agent could be fired without any cause or reason.

All dues paying members are not at will employees -Which means no agent can be terminated at the will of the employer.  A UNION protects Piedmont agents from these conditions even in right to work and/ or at will employment states.

Every dues paying members is the union. Many members volunteer and become shop stewards, join committees and run for elected positions to be more active and make the union stronger by advocating for workers’ rights. These individuals are serious defenders of the labor movement. They know that being an active Labor leader requires lots of dedication and volunteering numerous hours to maintain a strong UNION.

Unions officials protect workers’ rights by ensuring agents Right to Union Representation, the Grievance process, Fair Hearing (System Board hearings), In addition to daily, weekly and monthly  meetings with management in all 22 stations in our local to address, correct and  prevent work place concerns. In addition to  enforcing the contract. The contract sets forth the agreements made between piedmont and the Union protecting all our member’s workplace rights.
