MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Good Morning Brothers and Sisters!

I want to first say Happy New Year to everyone! 2020 has definitely been one for the books. We lost a lot in 2020 but for those who are reading this.. we have a lot to be thankful for. For those who have lost someone this year, my prayer is that you are comforted during this time and your family is doing well. We’ve lost quite a few employees this year and it’s been heartbreaking to say the least and to all of our Piedmont agents who’ve had to suffer/battle covid and beat it (including myself), I send you a prayer for continued health and strength!

As the new President for Local 3645, I want to first thank our past President, Anthony Barden for everything he’s taught me and for being an amazing leader to this team. I (we) will definitely miss you! As you enter this next phase in your retirement life.. we wish you much success!

The new executive board for CWA Local 3645 is set and ready to service our members in 2021. We will resume our shop steward trainings in January. Due to limited space in the Local office for social distancing, the staff rep, Vonda Hardy, can do 4 people in the office and 6 people on zoom. If you are interested in becoming a steward, please send your name, employee number, DOH, and the station you work to our email [email protected]. We will add you to the list.

Please plan to check the locals “official” website for all current Union activities. We post on social media to get instant information for as many as we can but it’s NOT our official communication portal. If you know someone that’s not getting member emails from the local, please ask them to sign up with us.

We have a membership meeting every quarter. Please plan to attend (can be attended virtually) so you can understand what’s going on in your local and help us make decisions to best service you.

We have multiple committees that we need participation with. Especially the finance committee. This will help with making sure all the financials are transparent to our members. Remember the locals finances  are reviewed in every quarterly members meeting. Also any member can view the finances at any time by making an appointment with the Sec/Trec  at [email protected] appointment are restricted to one member at a time, no cell phones or pictures may be taken and no documents will be copied or will leave the office. The Locals Annual LM3 is filed on the Department of Labor and are public record which can be viewd on their website.

At the end of this year, we had multiple arbitration’s. Arbitration’s are done with a neutral arbitrator and the Union and the Company split the cost. Arbitration’s can range from $3500 - $7000 each session, so these hearings are very important. I’m very happy to announce that we won 4 but we also lost 4. We will send out a arbitration summary separately.

We are looking forward to 2021 and hope you are too! We want to build this Local up stronger & make the work environment safer but we will need everyone’s help. Please read your contracts, Piedmont Policy and Procedure policy and the Piedmont Ground Handling handbook. All of these are important tools to making your job easier. You have to know the rules in order to follow them. Please help us hold the Company accountable to our contract.

Again, thank you for being a part of this Union and remember that we are stronger together.

In Unity,

Donielle Prophete President

CWA Local 3645
